Stake Mines predictor: why no tool can see the mines

"Stake Mines predictor" tools claim to show where the mines are before you click. They cannot. Stake Mines, and the Mines games at most crypto casinos, place the mines from your seeds before the round starts, using a scheme you can check after the fact. Nothing about it can be read in advance.

How Stake places the mines

Stake's provably fair system combines three values for every bet:

  • Server seed: secret, chosen by the casino. You see only its SHA-256 hash while it is active.
  • Client seed: yours. You can change it at any time in the fairness settings.
  • Nonce: a counter that goes up by one with every bet on that seed pair.

The casino runs HMAC-SHA256 with the server seed as the key and "client seed:nonce:round" as the message. The output is turned into numbers between 0 and 1, and those numbers shuffle the 25 tiles. The first tiles in the shuffled order are the mines. Our verifier does exactly this: choose Mines, paste the seeds and the nonce, and it draws the board.

Why a predictor cannot see the mines

  • The server seed is secret until you rotate it. While you play, only its hash is public. SHA-256 cannot be run backwards to get the seed.
  • Without the server seed, the board is unknowable. Your client seed and nonce are public to you, but they mean nothing without the key.
  • Past boards do not help. Each nonce gives a fresh, independent shuffle. There is no "safe tile" pattern and no hot or cold corner.

After you rotate the seed, the casino reveals the old server seed and you can recompute every board you played. That is the point of provably fair: you can prove the past, not predict the future.

What predictors actually do

  • Random tiles. Any tool that "shows" safe tiles is guessing. With 3 mines, a random first click is safe 88% of the time, so guesses look good for a click or two.
  • Account theft. Many ask for your Stake login, an API token or a browser extension. That gives them your balance.
  • Paid referrals. Predictor channels are often paid per sign-up through their link.

The odds you are really playing

Mines pays according to how many safe tiles you reveal and how many mines are on the board, with a house edge built into every multiplier (1% at Stake). The more tiles you open, the bigger the multiplier and the smaller your chance. No strategy changes the edge.

Mines on board Chance first click is safe Chance 5 clicks in a row are safe
1 96% 80%
3 88% 49.6%
5 80% 29.2%
10 60% 5.7%

Check your own boards

  1. In Stake, open Fairness and rotate your seed pair to reveal the server seed.
  2. Copy the revealed server seed, your client seed, and the nonce of the bet from your bet details.
  3. Paste them into our verifier, choose Mines and set the number of mines.
  4. The board should match the one you played.

If it matches, the board was fixed before you clicked. If you ever find one that does not, keep the seeds and contact us.

Red flags

  • Asks for your login, an API key or to install an extension.
  • Claims "AI", "server access" or "hacked seeds".
  • Shows only winning clips.
  • Works only through a sign-up link.

If you have shared your login, change your password, turn on two-factor authentication and check your withdrawal settings now.

Key terms

Provably fair
A cryptographic method that lets you confirm a game result was set before your bet and left untouched afterwards.
Mines
A grid game where each safe tile you reveal lifts the multiplier, and you must cash out before uncovering a mine.
Server seed
The casino's secret random value that, together with your client seed and the nonce, decides each bet result.
Client seed
The player's own input to every provably fair result, set or edited by you so the casino cannot work out outcomes in advance.
Nonce
A bet counter that goes up by one for each wager on the same seed pair, so no two bets share a result.
Seed rotation
Swapping the active server seed for a fresh one, which discloses the old seed so you can verify its bets.
House edge
The average percentage of every wager that a game is built to keep for the casino.

Frequently asked questions

Do Stake Mines predictors work?
No. The board comes from a secret server seed that is only revealed after you rotate it, so no tool can know where the mines are.
Is there a safe pattern in Mines?
No. Each bet uses a new nonce and a fresh shuffle of all 25 tiles.
Can I check if Stake Mines is fair?
Yes. Rotate your seed pair, then paste the revealed server seed, your client seed and the nonce into our verifier with Mines selected.
Why do predictors sometimes get it right?
With few mines most tiles are safe. With 3 mines a random first click is safe 88% of the time.
