Seed rotation
Swapping the active server seed for a fresh one, which discloses the old seed so you can verify its bets.
Rotating seeds, also described as changing the seed pair, retires the current server seed and activates a new one. At that point the casino reveals the retired server seed and shows you the hash of its replacement.
Reveal only after retirement
A server seed can be disclosed only when no further bets will use it. Knowing the live seed would let you calculate upcoming results. That is why verification has to wait until you rotate. It is intended behaviour, not a weakness.
Good moments to rotate
- At the start of a new session: setting a fresh client seed usually triggers rotation of the server seed too.
- Whenever you want to check a batch of bets, rotate and use the disclosed seed.
- If you are not sure you saved the hashed seed, rotate and begin again with a commitment you have actually recorded.
Step by step
You place 500 bets on server seed A, then press rotate. The casino discloses seed A, displays the hash for seed B, and sets your nonce back to 0. All 500 bets on seed A are now open to verification.
