Client seed
The player's own input to every provably fair result, set or edited by you so the casino cannot work out outcomes in advance.
In a provably fair scheme, the client seed is the part you control. Most casinos fill it with a random string by default, yet allow you to replace it with any text you choose.
The attack it blocks
If randomness came from the casino alone, it could generate a large batch of server seeds beforehand and keep the one that hurts typical players most. Your client seed is combined with the server seed only after the casino has published its commitment, so at commitment time the casino has no way of knowing how results will fall.
This protection depends on two things: you must be able to edit the client seed, and the casino must not be able to guess it. If a site does not let you choose your own, the whole scheme becomes much weaker. Our fairness audits treat an editable client seed as a minimum requirement.
Habits worth building
- Replace the default with your own string before betting, particularly when a fresh server seed is active.
- Save the value somewhere; verification is impossible without it.
- Expect a seed change to rotate the server seed and set the nonce back to zero.
