House edge

The average percentage of every wager that a game is built to keep for the casino.

House edge measures how much of each stake the casino expects to retain over time. Subtract the RTP from 100% and you have it.

The cost of every bet

Think of the house edge as the price tag on each wager. The more you turn over, the larger your expected loss, which is exactly why wagering requirements are expensive. On pure chance games no betting system removes it. Provably fair verification does not lower it either; verification shows only that outcomes were not tampered with.

A dice illustration

A dice bet with a 50% win chance pays 1.98x, whereas a fair price would be 2x. That gap equals a 1% house edge, or an average loss of $1 per $100 staked.

Where games usually land

Provably fair originals at crypto casinos commonly sit near 1%. Slots range widely, often 2% to 8%, depending on which RTP version the casino runs. For table games it depends on the rule set and on your skill.

Working out expected loss

Multiply total amount wagered by the house edge. It is turnover, not the size of your deposit, that determines the result.
