Wagering requirement
How much you have to bet in total before a bonus, or the winnings it generates, becomes withdrawable.
A wagering requirement, which you will also see called playthrough or rollover, is attached to nearly every casino promotion. It is quoted as a multiple, 35x for instance, and, depending on the terms, is applied either to the bonus by itself, to deposit and bonus combined, or to free spin winnings.
Why the multiple decides everything
Every bet carries a house edge, so each extra unit you must wager eats further into the bonus. The multiple therefore tells you whether a bonus is worth anything in practice.
A worked comparison
A $100 deposit brings a $100 bonus, and 35x applies to the bonus alone. That means $3,500 in bets before withdrawal. Play it through on a slot whose edge is 4% and you should expect to lose roughly $140, bigger than the bonus itself. The same offer at 10x needs $1,000 in bets and costs about $40 in expected loss.
Plug any offer into the wagering calculator to get total turnover and expected cost.
Clauses to find in the terms of service
- Whether the multiple covers the bonus only or deposit and bonus together.
- Each game's contribution rate; our game weighting entry explains how this works.
- The deadline, the maximum bet during wagering, and any max cashout.
