KYC (know your customer)
The identity verification a casino runs on players, normally asking for an ID, a selfie and proof of address.
KYC, or know your customer, is the process of confirming who a customer really is. Casinos typically ask for government-issued ID, a selfie or live face scan, and in some cases proof of address or evidence of where your money came from.
The operator's reasons
Licensed sites carry anti-money laundering duties, have to block minors and self-excluded players, and must stop duplicate accounts and fraud. Even crypto casinos that open an account with nothing but an email keep a right to verify you somewhere in their terms of service.
Typical triggers
Crypto casinos often request documents at the first cashout, when a withdrawal crosses a threshold, or when their systems flag unusual play. A request after a big win is normal and not in itself bad faith. Repeated requests and shifting demands, however, are red flags.
How to stay ahead
- Find the KYC clause in the terms before your first deposit.
- Complete verification early, while there is nothing waiting to be withdrawn.
- Upload documents only through the casino's official verification flow.
- Log each KYC request and when it arrived; our payout tests record the same.
