Self-exclusion

A voluntary block you put on your own gambling, at one operator or across a whole regulated market, for a fixed period.

Self-exclusion stops you from gambling for a set length of time, commonly six months up to several years, or for good. Depending on the market, it can cover a single casino or every licensed operator at once.

Canadian programmes as an example

Canadian provinces operate self-exclusion for their own casinos and online platforms. In Ontario and Alberta, registered private operators are also required to offer it, and Alberta's Centralized Self-Exclusion program applies a single request to every registered site in the province.

Offshore crypto casinos

No provincial or national scheme extends to offshore crypto casinos. You have to contact each one directly, normally through support, and it decides how to enforce the request. Pair that with blocking tools such as Gamban or BetBlocker, which shut off gambling sites on your own devices.

Making it stick

  • Get written confirmation of the exclusion, and ask for the account to be closed rather than merely suspended.
  • Withdraw your balance before anything else.
  • Let someone you trust know, and think about calling a helpline.
