Random number generator (RNG)
The software behind third-party slot and table results, trusted through lab certification instead of player-checkable seeds.
An RNG, or random number generator, decides the outcomes of digital casino games. The bulk of third-party slots and digital table titles get their results from an RNG hosted on the studio's own servers.
Where trust comes from
Confidence in an RNG normally rests on independent test labs that review the code and its statistical output, plus regulators that insist on certified games. You cannot check any single result yourself; you depend on that testing, on the licence and on the studio's track record.
Compared with seed-based verification
With provably fair games, every result can be recomputed by you once the seed is disclosed. RNG titles offer no such check. Neither model alters the house edge. Seed verification is the stronger tool for checking individual bets, while RNG certification covers games never designed for player-side verification, which includes most slots.
Points to confirm at a casino
- Which titles in the lobby are in-house seed-verifiable originals, and which come from outside studios running an RNG.
- That every outside studio is an established name with lab certificates.
- Which RTP version the casino picked for each slot.
